Sublimating acrylic pieces

Sublimando piezas de acrílico

In this week's topic we are going to share a question that comes up to all of us, it is possible to sublimate acrylic. Can it be?

Before going into the details of the process, let's remember that sublimation is done on pieces that have a polymer coating , polymer in a nutshell is plastic. So in a nutshell, whatever plastic we can sublimate it .

But we must remember that plastic deforms when it comes into contact with heat, so this fix has exceptions.

Returning to the topic of the blog, can you sublimate acrylic? Yes, but we must take into account the shape of the object so as not to deform it.

So to sublimate keychains Y flat pieces of acrylic , we must place the piece on a support so that it returns to its original shape.

Must it be a special acrylic? No, traditional acrylic is useful for this process.

To sublimate this material we must:

  • Set our iron with a medium pressure.
  • Place the image to be sublimated but we must adhere it with a not very resistant glue, the use of thermal tape is not recommended because it can mark the material.
  • Set your iron to 200°C for 70-80 seconds.
  • Once the process is finished, place the acrylic piece with a support on top, which weighs it down and prevents it from deforming.
  • Let the piece cool for 15 minutes.
  • Remove the support.
  • Proceed by removing the sublimation sheet with the help of a damp cloth.
We already have the result. If you want to see the video go here .
